Petr Švihlík

VP of Engineering
Building high-performing teams, systems, and technical strategy

Profile

VP of Engineering leading a ~60-person product engineering organization at Kentico, a global DXP/CMS vendor — owning engineering strategy, org design, people systems, AI transformation, and SaaS platform operations. I create clarity, trust, and alignment: translating strategy into execution while giving teams the ownership and autonomy they need to do their best work. Most effective where technical depth, people leadership, and strategic thinking intersect. Strong bias toward action and learning by doing.

Experience

2023 – Present
VP of Engineering · Kentico — Brno, Czechia

Engineering executive for a global DXP/CMS vendor. Own engineering strategy, org design, people systems, AI transformation, and SaaS platform operations across a ~60-engineer product organization; report to the CPO.

  • Built Kentico's engineering career architecture from the ground up: dual IC/EM tracks, job tiers, role definitions, promotion process, and a merit-based compensation system with annual market-benchmarked salary methodology (3 consecutive cycles).
  • Led company-wide AI transformation: adoption programs and budget governance, a tier-linked Engineering Management AI Baseline, provider-agnostic tooling strategy, and internal automation.
  • Drove KentiCopilot, an agentic AI product built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling end-to-end agentic scenarios over the CMS; report progress directly to the CEO with checkpoint-gated delivery.
  • Own SaaS reliability and security posture: incident management analysis, uptime reporting, and Azure cost optimization — cut cloud spend by ~10% through improved forecasting and workload optimization.
  • Co-designed and executed a Team Topologies-based reorganization of the product org into five divisions; authored division charters, identified and onboarded two new division leaders, and now lead Platform Engineering directly.
  • Represent engineering to strategic partners and enterprise customers: led the technical response retaining Kentico's top implementation partner; negotiated SLA terms for government SaaS procurement.

Senior Software Development Engineer · Microsoft — Prague, Czechia

Azure Communication Services (ACS) | Developer Success team. A deliberate swing back to hands-on engineering at global scale — senior IC by choice (declined a parallel EM offer) before returning to executive leadership.

  • Served as Developer Experience panelist, influencing public APIs and SDK design across ACS — collaborating with the Azure SDK architects on API design and review.
  • Conducted REST & SDK API reviews and privacy & security reviews for globally distributed cloud services; defined best practices for authentication, authorization, and identity management.
  • Key projects: ACS/Microsoft Teams interoperability; Identity service idempotence and reliability improvements.
